1495579 Metallurgical units NL INDUSTRIES Inc 29 July 1975 [12 Aug 1974] 31790/75 Addition to 1483613 Heading B3H A metallurgical unit comprises a stack of toroidal metal briquettes as described in Specification 1,483,613, the briquettes being held positioned to have apertures therein in alignment. The briquette (20), Fig. 2 (not shown), is a body of ferrous metal impregnated with magnesium metal and has a central aperture (24). The stack is placed in a container (21) having end closures (22) provided with apertures aligned with the apertures (24) and sealed by covers (23) which also fit into the apertures (24) of the outermost briquettes to hold the stack in alignment. In an alternative form, the briquettes 51 are located on a rod 52 between holding pins 53, the assembly being placed in a container 54. The rod protrudes through a top end closure 55 and ceramic cement 57 seals the opening around the rod. In a further embodiment a rod (42), Fig. 4 (not shown), passes through both ends of a container (41), in which are located briquettes (40), and the container assembly is held on the rod by pins (43). The briquettes may be removed from the container prior to immersion in molten iron or the container, which is of steel, may also be immersed in the melt. 0À65 lb. of Mg. is added to each ton of molten iron and a rapid reaction lasting four minutes follows. After eight minutes the briquettes and rod and the metal container, if present, are also dissolved. The rod is preferably of ceramic coated steel or all ceramic. 公开号:SU735179A3 申请号:SU752163127 申请日:1975-08-08 公开日:1980-05-15 发明作者:Исваран Джайрадж 申请人:Н.Л.Индастриз Инк (Фирма); IPC主号:
专利说明:
(54) REAGENT BLOCK one The present invention relates to the metallurgy of ferrous metals, more specifically to the processing of cast iron with metal briquettes saturated with magnesium. Reagent blocks are known, consisting of disks or metal briquettes saturated with magnesium and assembled into a bag. However, their use for the treatment of cast iron is difficult, and requires special devices for immersing bricks in the metal. The aim of the invention is to simplify the process of processing molten metal reagents and. To achieve this goal, the reagent unit is provided with a container with a rod passing along its axis, the reagent unit being installed inside the container and fixed relative to it, passing through the holes along the axis of the disks or briquettes, and with the latch finger inserted into the rod under the disks or briquettes. FIG. 1 shows an annular briquette of iron scrap, saturated with metallic magnesium; in fig. 2 is a vertical section of the briquettes inserted into . container; in fig. 3 — rod with parts for holding the unit; in fig. 4 is a vertical section of the brikts inserted in the container with the rod; in fig. 5 is a vertical section of another form of the reagent block. A metal ring-shaped briquette 1 made of pressed porous scrap saturated with metallic magnesium with a hole 2 in the center is assembled into a briquette bag which is installed 10 in container 3 with end walls 4 having central holes 5 which are closed tightly fitted with lids 6. Holes 2 in ring-shaped briquettes coaxially with holes 5 in the end walls of the container 3. The rod 7 is passed 15 through the bag and pins 8 to hold the bag on the rod. Ring-shaped briquettes 1 are installed in the container 3. The package is mounted on the rod 7 and held onto it by fingers-fixers 8. A package of another form (Fig. 5) collects. with ring-shaped briquettes 1 pre-positioned on the rod 7 and held in a certain position with pins 8. Pre-assembled bricks and the rod are installed in container 3 having an upper end wall 9, with the upper end of the rod extending from the upper end wall. The hole through which the rod exits the wall is sealed with ceramic cement 10. Briquettes are made from steel scrap or iron shavings by pressing and have a density of from 25 to 50% of the density of the liquid metal. They are pressed into ring-shaped dies. Briquettes are immersed in molten magnesium metal, which saturates the intervals of pressed metal pieces. Then several ring-shaped briquettes are placed one on another and placed in a metal container and a rod is passed through the entire assembly. The node is held on the rod with fingers-clips inserted into the rod under the discs or briquettes. If required, graphite rods can be used. The reagent block is immersed in the cast iron and held below the metal surface. Within the first minute, the container begins to dissolve in the metal and the magnesium reacts with the iron, reducing the sulfur content in the metal. Magnesium is released from the bricks quickly, but not violently. After three or four minutes, most of the magnesium dissolves and after five, six minutes the briquette and the core themselves begin to melt. Such a bag can be raised and lowered from metal, if required. The initial sulfur content in the iron was 0.041 ° / o, and after processing with the reagent unit 0.023%. The unit is simple and inexpensive to use.
